The Challenge
A humid coastal climate and a plot overlooked on two sides meant the home needed light and airflow without opening directly to neighbours — a balance of privacy and ventilation.
Our Approach
We organised the entire house around a planted central courtyard, turning rooms inward to this protected open space. Wide overhangs and a ventilated roof manage monsoon rain and heat, while clay tile and lime plaster keep interiors cool and tactile. Openings to the street are deliberately restrained for privacy.
The Outcome
A naturally cool, light-filled home that stays private from the road yet feels open within — completed in 11 months and notably comfortable through Mangalore's humid summers.
