The Challenge
The site offered a spectacular lake view but faced harsh west afternoon sun and seasonal flood risk along its lower edge. The brief asked for openness to the water without compromising comfort or the building's longevity.
Our Approach
We raised the plinth and stepped the volumes back from the water, giving every principal room a framed lake view while keeping habitable floors above the flood line. Deep cantilevered verandahs shade the west glazing, and a local-stone base grounds the lighter rendered upper floors. Cross-ventilation was tuned to the lake breeze to cut cooling loads.
The Outcome
A calm, weather-resilient villa where the lake is present from the moment you enter — completed in 16 months and comfortable year-round with minimal mechanical cooling.
